Adam Daniel Martinez
A.D. Martinez is a Chicano musician, poet, writer and professor of English at Chaffey College. Hailing from the San Bernardino, California, Martinez began rapping at 11 years old. A decade later, he played his first professional rap show as Faimkills in 2008 at the University of California, Riverside. Throughout his academic career and into his professional life, Martinez has placed focus on synthesizing Hip-Hop with academia to artistically engage in themes of identity, trauma, mental health, love and more. As an educator, Martinez is indebted and forever grateful to Hip-Hop and rap music—rocking hundreds of shows in his decade-long career prepared him for the stage that is the classroom. As a poet, Martinez’s first poetry manuscript, Remyth: A Postmodernist Ritual, is the 2019 Inlandia Institute Hillary Gravendyk Regional Winner.
